Senior Forensic Engineer, Highway-Bridge

Individuals in this role would lead HKA’s forensic highway/bridge practice. They would qualify as lead testifying expert in complex claims and arbitration or litigation matters. They would lead the analysis of highway and bridge design and construction issues and alleged deficiencies, develop expert opinions on the factors that lead to a deficiency or failure, and identify the parties responsible. They would lead development of a written forensic engineering report summarizing the facts, the analyses and tests performed, and presenting expert findings and opinions.

Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct forensic investigations on highway and bridge design and construction issues to analyze and determine the cause, origin, and extent of failures, defects, and errors and omissions leading to cost overruns.
- Investigate and assess damages due to catastrophes such as storm damage, hurricanes, and floods.
- Research technical publications and literature in support of evaluations and apply engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards.
- Provide signed and sealed detailed forensic engineering reports outlining cause and origin of damage to clients.
- Manage multiple projects and assume responsibility for project execution within required time frames.
- Communicate with administrative staff and clients to provide timelines and project updates on a consistent basis.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
- License: Professional Engineer license required.
- Minimum fifteen (15) years of highway and/or bridge design and construction experience.
- Experience in expert witness testimony as a Forensic Engineer
- Experience working with law firms and insurance companies.
- Deposition and expert testimony experience preferred.
- Strong analytical and field inspection skills.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry a ladder.
- Must be able to access ladders, scaffolding, swing staging, roofs, and elevated surfaces.
